7/19/24 – Operational Area Coordination Call Notes
Santa Clara County Operational Area updates on the current/upcoming heat event and outages.
- County EOC is currently activated at level 4
- Some issues reported with Microsoft/CrowdStrike outage, most departments and agencies are back to normal or working around it.
- 8 cooling centers are currently open in county.
- National Weather Service
- Continued warm weather expected
- Heat Advisory is in effect until 11 pm tonight (7/19)
- Marine layer is back, overnight temps will be moderate
- Average temps expected over weekend
- Warming next week, Tuesday and Wednesday will be hottest with temps ranging from 90 to slightly over 100 degrees
- South county will be warmest
- Heat is expected to break by Friday of next week
- Long term forecast is indicating average temps by the end of July
- PG&E
- Windy and warm weather expected
- Fuels are dangerously high
- Slight wind risk today (7/19)
- Heat risk Monday through Wednesday of next week
- Amount of outages are low at this time and expected to remain good through next week.
- San Jose has largest outages, but all were planned for maintenance work – all customers were notified prior to outage
- Medical Examiner
- 3 possible heat related fatalities
